  TITLE:
The Swedish Gazebo - Science & Adventure

DATE:
January 2005

ARTICLE CONTENT:

An international platform of exhibition material organised in the spirit of Carl Linnaeus for 2007-2009!

Exhibitions, seminars, media publications, theatres, children's schools, shops etc - all designed to encompass The Swedish Gazebo. A fresh approach to the world of Carl Linnaeus, Swedish research and Swedish values in a multicultural world!

THE SWEDISH GAZEBO is a collaborative project involving IK and the following Swedish organisations - The Swedish Institute, The Ministry for Foreign Affairs, The Swedish Academy of Verbovisual Communication, Växjö University and Lund University. The idea is to establish an international platform that surrounds a beautiful gazebo - the focal point of the exhibition. This new format will lend weight to an international exhibition about Linnaeus and his world, Swedish research and Swedish values.

The various permanent exhibitions will be:

  • The world of Linnaeus and his apostles.

  • A young peoples' workshop.

  • A contemporary exhibition describing Sweden and Swedish research today.

Apart from the exhibitions, The Swedish Gazebo will be a platform for live and specially designed programmes for each location. The programmes will include seminars, theatre, media and shops.

Wherever possible, the exhibition will be held outside, typical venues will be botanical gardens, university campuses, embassy gardens, museum parks and other interesting or unusual and well visited venues. It will also be possible to hold the exhibition in exhibition halls that have a minimum of 150 sq m.

Three identical platforms are to be made for three travelling exhibitions that will be shown in the following countries between 2007 and 2009:

  • GAZEBO A: Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

  • GAZEBO B: USA and Canada.

  • GAZEBO C. The Nordic Countries (Finland, Denmark and Iceland), Great Britain, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, Turkey and Russia.

A final decision about this investment will be taken in early 2005. If you or your organisation is interested in participating in the Swedish Gazebo project please contact IK.

OUR PURPOSE

Promoting Natural & Cultural History

WHO WE ARE

We are an international, independent learned organisation for promoting natural and cultural history.

For more than two decades IK has worked for a better understanding of the natural and cultural history of our world by means of, among other things, field work, research projects, exhibitions and publications.

As an independent and not-for-profit organisation - with a strong reputation for excellence, interdisciplinary thinking, in-depth knowledge and long-term results - IK continues to develop unique international networks of cooperation and finance in order to fulfil its mission.

A mission in which we believe that it is the right of everyone to have access to good knowledge of both local and global natural and cultural history and that an interdisciplinary and historical approach to these subjects probably makes it easier to understand life as it is today and face the future - something that affects all of us on planet earth.
