Hi there!
What can you see in this picture?
It depends of course on who you are and what it is you are looking for! If you are interested in earth sciences, you will discover a pond that was formed during the end of the last ice age, its location in the landscape, its shape and deposits in the shoreline and flow. If you are an archaeologist, you will see the traces of ancient activities in the form of burial mounds and older cultivated landscapes and its methods. The naturalist sees animal paths, flora and the chemistry of the soil, historians discover ancient boundaries and roads; and this is how it continues depending on who you are and what you are looking for!
This is the beauty of working with aerial pictures, a true interdisciplinary field which not only documents a landscape, but shapes the foundation for new knowledge about understanding our Natural and Cultural History. As previously announced in iMESSENGER (Issue No: 1/2019 and Issue No:6/2019), IK owns an extensive reference archive of scientific aerial pictures spanning a total of 70 years. The initial scanning work is now done and from 2021 our dedicated department iBirdsEye is entering a new phase to develop the subject even more, until then the editorial work on the iBirdsEye picture archive continues to be completed and will be used as a free and open publication for the benefit of all interested parties – hopefully with many different perspectives!
The year 2021 IK Calendar is therefore simply called PERSPECTIVES to celebrate 70 years of scientific aerial photography and to stimulate broad and long-term thinking in the "true understanding of the relative importance of things; a sense of proportion" – our planet needs it!
If you have not already received our 2021 Calendar, please send us your address and we will send it to You by post for free.
