Hi there!
About once every decade, The IK Foundation reviews its organisation and outreach activities comprehensively. The reason for this is simply that the world around us is constantly changing. When IK was founded in the late 1980s, email and the Internet were not used as we use them today. Although IK was early to use these innovations in exhibitions (for example, in the ”Global Puzzle„ exhibition in collaboration with UNICEF), the digital working tools were first applicable in everyday work around the turn of the millennium!
Over the decades, IK has gone from what we call IK v.1 up to v.3; of course, the digital revolution has played a significant role in the various internal reviews and updates carried out over the years. However, issues such as economics in research funding, philanthropy, and an efficient organisation have also been of importance to IK, and this is because we are a completely independent, not-for-profit remote organisation. IK has no secure revenues but can only rely on what we have created, and our innovative thinking is the best merit to secure our future existence. It is not always a simple task, and therefore, it is crucial to take the time to think about what we are doing and how to improve.
IK covers vast geographic regions through local fieldwork, analyses, and both printed and digital publications, all playing a pivotal role in extensive digital resources under the umbrella of ”Promoting Natural & Cultural History." With the coming ”update” from The IK Foundation regarding its organisation and outreach activities, a crucial question arises: how do we ensure sustained high quality? Our steadfast dedication to quality reassures us about the future. In this context, we must explore innovative solutions that meet the diverse demands of today's world while also preserving our essence linked to the traditional realm, particularly through the craftsmanship involved in our printed publications.
In 2025, this updating work will gradually appear. Symbolically, we aim to be similar to IK's unique long-term structure to organically act as branches of a large tree that is a prerequisite to the rest of the tree. Yet, while each branch has its own conditions, they are all components of a more extensive system. That is why this year's IK CALENDAR 2025 & BOOKLIST theme is ”NETWORK IK v.4„. If you wish to receive the new calendar, you are welcome to contact us or place an order in BOOKS & ART. It will follow with your orders.
