Hi there!
Think of historical giants like James Cook and Joseph Banks, who, despite their differences in backgrounds, they were united to describe, among other things, what was beyond their country's horizons! But as always behind all great persons, there are hard-working and skilled people who put long-term impact, one of these was the Linnaeus' apostle DANIEL SOLANDER.
Solander scholar Edward Duyker in his library in Sydney and Pär Ahlberger at the latest eruption at Fagradalsfjall in Iceland, Ambassador of Sweden to the Pacific Region 2014-2019 and to Iceland from 2020.
Earlier this year, we presented in iMessenger (Issue No 5) Solander as ”A cross-border European, a prominent naturalist, and a globetrotter who became one of the first curators at The British Museum”, he was and is indeed a true source of deep knowledge, but also in style and thinking!
Two people who have managed and implemented groundbreaking projects on Solander and have been working in his spirit are Edward Duyker in Australia and Pär Ahlberger in Iceland. In our series of TELL US YOUR STORY, they both share their fascination of Solander, projects that led them around the world and like the “object” itself created unique meetings and insights of our planet.
Follow Solander's journeys through iLinnaeus and the many free resources offered to those interested in the form of, among other things iMaps, iFacts, iBooks...
The two new stories ”AN APOSTLE OF DANIEL SOLANDER – from the Pacific to the Arctic” and ”A PERSONAL JOURNEY” are both important sources of inspiration, but also long-term foundations for further research and development in the spirit of Daniel!
