Hi there!
”An insight into pure wilderness” has now been realised due to many years of work with the project FIELD STATION | NATURAE OBSERVATIO. Since 12 May the Field Station | Martin’s Eye has sent daily observations from its remote location on the island Prins Karls Forland off the west coast of Spitsbergen.
The same place as the Linnaeus’ apostle Anton Rolandsson Martin visited already in 1758 and made natural history notations in his diary from – thereof the name ”Martin’s Eye”.
As reported in a previous IK iMessenger, a new and unique autonomous micro Field Station has been developed by an international team of researchers and technical specialists under the organisation of The IK Foundation and equally assisted by a longterm financial support by LMK Foundation for Interdisciplinary Scientific Research. Early in this month this new temporarily placed Field Station on Forlandsletta was successfully erected – being an important part of the ongoing project Bridge Builder Expeditions.
In the Initial Field Report from Spitsbergen, Lars Hansen at The IK Foundation describes more about the background, chosen spot, the work and preliminary results.
