Hi there!
Over the years, various undertakings by The IK Foundation around the world – e.g. field work, expeditions, research and publicise projects – have generated a unique collection of Natural & Cultural History related pictures. Subjects include pictures from the air, land and sea with a focus on landscape, geography and art. Given the background of these pictures, most of them can be considered unique – in some cases groundbreaking – and with particular scientific and documentary value, but of course they also have many other merits and uses.
The earliest pictures date from the late 19th century although most are from the second half of the 20th century – the collection is regularly updated with new pictures from various new endeavours.
One such special enterprise is iBirdsEye, IK's dedicated division for aerial photography! As previously reported in iMessenger, this is a new division of The IK Workshop Society – a global and unique forum for all those who are interested in Natural & Cultural History from a bird’s-eye view. There, we gather around the fascinating world of aerial photography – interpretations, techniques, angles, etc – a truly practical and theoretical multidisciplinary science.
The publishing work of IK's aerial photographs has been made possible through a long-standing collaboration with The Thora Ohlsson Foundation in Sweden. The work involves several steps by a number of individuals in different countries in EU Europe. Since the initial stages of the work, we are proud to have Lars and Stig-Göran Estvall with us in the extensive scanning and image processing.
The two Estvall brothers belong to a family working in the photo industry since the 1930s – their professionalism and craftsmanship with every picture is worth their weight in gold – and is visible down to every pixel! The project is expected to be completed in 2021, but from the start, processed images have been continuously published.
