Hi there!
Since its founding in 1988 The IK Foundation has worked extensively with all forms of pictures. Mostly for pure documentation reasons or various publishing projects. IK's Picture Library now includes hundreds of thousands of photographs and films in Natural & Cultural History – the majority exclusive to IK!
Over the past few years, we have begun to publish samples and particularly valuable collections on our dedicated site THE IK FOUNDATION PICTURES, where they become freely available for interested parties to study and use under a Creative Commons license.
This work — which has been described in a previous iMESSENGER | ‘Pictures from the air, land and sea’ – will not only continue but also expand to be able to inspire and be used by people, organisations and in projects around the world!
In our public interface for published pictures, we have a partnership with the California based image hosting company SmugMug, who provides a global, professional, secure and long-term photo service for our material. However, for a picture to reach our Picture Site is a long road; from sorting, analysis and description to scanning and uploading to IK's various servers in EU Europe for long-term storage – a selection or a dedicated collection are then published via SmugMug | THE IK FOUNDATION PICTURES.
As an independent organisation without public funding, IK relies on long-term collaborations with scientific funds and philanthropy, in order to be able to implement projects as described above! If you are interested in supporting IK, please feel free to contact us or read about our philanthropic programs or simply order pictures in the form of Paper Prints | Wall Art | Desk Art | Keepsake | Downloads - The Printing Lab is open!
