TITLE:
Commemorative plaque and book launch at Christinehof Country-House, Sweden
DATE:
20th August 2004
ARTICLE CONTENT:
Nearly a hundred invited guests
gathered on a warm and beautiful August morning in the courtyard of
the Christinehof country-house in southern Sweden.
Introductory speeches were made by Fideikommissarie Carl Piper of
the entailed estate of Christinehof & Högestad and by Director Lars
Hansen of the IK Foundation & Company to mark the installation of
a plaque commemorating the many years of cooperation between the organisations
- a cooperation, involving a historical restoration and innovative
management of the building and the park from 1990 to1997. During those
years Stiftelsen IK - the Nordic sibling of IK Foundation & Company
in the UK - was responsible for cataloguing the Christinehof archives
and for locating them in the modern archive rooms as Stiftelsen IK
then had its headquarters at Christinehof. This work was also the
inspiration for the decision to publish the occasional series of documents,
Piperska Handlingar.
The day also saw the launch of edition No: 2 of Piperska Handlingar,
entitled "Inventariüm uppå Meübler och Allahanda Hüüsgeråd wid Christinehofs
Herregård Upprättadt Åhr 1758" [Inventory of Furniture and Household
Goods at Christinehof Manor, set up in 1758]. The book is based on
a unique inventory from 1758, which is still kept in the Christinehof
archives. Author and textile-historian Viveka Hansen's descriptive
texts provide unique glimpses into a world long past - an aristocratic
home in the North European countryside nearly 250 years ago. After
an address by the author, guests were guided through the palace -
a tour which ended in the newly constructed archive building, where
guests could study its rich contents, stretching back as far as the
Danish nobleman Jockum Beck's founding of the pre-industrial manufacture
of alum at Andrarum alumworks - which eventually were to become the
foundation of the entailed estate.
The edition has been dedicated to the inspiring spirit, then member
of IK and Chief Inspector of Historic Monuments and Buildings, Carl
Filip Mannerstråle (1924-2002).
