'The Explorer’s Field Guide | Путеводитель исследователя – Экспедиции Апостолов Линнея по наведению мостов во времени – Швеция, Казахстан, Кыргызстан и Россия'. This foldable print in the Russian language was launched at the seminar “The Linnaeus Apostles, Bridge Builder Expeditions – Sweden, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan & Russia” on 6th June 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
'The Explorer’s Field Guide', the first of a series of prints within the Natural & Cultural history projects "Bridge Builder Expeditions" – stretching in time from the 18th century to present-day. This field guide includes observations on Carl Linnaeus and his Systema Naturae, his seventeen so-called Apostles who travelled to more than fifty countries, Johan Peter Falck and his studies of everyday clothing, water, petroglyphs etc in Russia, Kazakhstan and via his assistants from several other more southerly situated areas. Making comparisons with early colour photographs from Prokudin-Gorskii Collection and modern DNA studies.
This is an interdisciplinary work, which already has been circulated to a significant number of organisations, institutions and schools in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. The field guide will continuously be distributed during the coming year, as the "Bridge Builder Expeditions" continue between the countries, but entering into a new phase.
Picture showing: THE SERGEI MIKHAILOVICH PROKUDIN-GORSKII COLLECTION includes more than 2600 colour photographs taken ca 1905-1915 – depicting everyday life, work in industry and farming, unspoiled countryside and urban environments in the Russian Empire. The collection is a fascinating example of “Bridge Building” over time, to assist and increase the understanding for various historical periods, present-day and the future alike. The photographs are since 1948 part of the collection at The Library of Congress in USA. Illustrated: Bread seller in Samarkand, Uzbekistan (21765u).
